Connect to remote server

Dear All, I am trying to connect to a remote server in another city. I have made an entry of the server in sqlhosts file at my place. I can connect to the server through winsql. I need to find out the difference in database at my end & the remote server. Do i need to make an entry in the sqlhosts file at the remote server too. What other settings i need to do. Please help. Best Regards, Lloyd
Both servers need to know about each other if you are making the connection
through the local server (ie INFORMIXSERVER is set to the local server and you
are using 'databasename@remote_servername' syntax in a database statement (as
for example IB dbschema does) to get to the remote server (using CONNECT TO
does
not have this problem). In this case the initial connection is to the default
server which then makes a passthrough connection to the remote. If you set
INFORMIXSERVER to the remote servername then the remote sqlhosts file does not
need to list the local server.
HOWEVER, both hosts need to know about each other and must be listed in each
others /etc/hosts files and their port services must be listed in each others
/etc/services files (unless you used port numbers in the sqlhosts file).
Finally any user trying to make the connection must either connect using a
login
name and password valid on the remote (have to include the USER and USING
clauses in CONNECT TO, dbschema does not) or the user must be trusted on the
remote (entry in /etc/hosts.equiv for the local host to trust all users or in
each user's $HOME/.rhosts file to trust just specific users). In either case
the user must have a valid login (and password if not relying on trusted
status) on the remote.
