I'm starting to read about excalibur datablade for indexing documents and the Lucene text type fields indexer. Someone is using or used any of these two?
Hi Jacobo, The Excalibur Text Blade was a separate installable package you could purchase from IBM (note the past tense). There was a cost because it used 3rd party royalty agreements. It reached End of Life in April 2017. I donât know the particulars on the sales or support of this blade. All Informix servers have the Basic Text Search, aka BTS, builtin. However donât be fooled by its name, it not that âbasicâ anymore. Its documented at: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSGU8G_12.1.0/com.ibm.dbext.doc/i ds_dbxt_175.htm BTS is based on Clucene (which was based on the popular java based lucene text search engine). It supports all the string types including clob, as well as documents containing XML. In 12.10 we introduced text analyzers and support for JSON and BSON data types. You can index the clear text, or, with XML/JSON/BSON, you can index the structure text indexing in individual fields. You can query using word, phrase, proximity, wildcards and fuzzy predicates. It fully supports most Locales and CJK analyzers. At the highest level the most notable difference between Excalibur and BTS is that Exalibur supported indexing of formatted documents like PDF, MS Word, etc and currently BTS does not. However, BTS supports indexing of structure documents like XML/JSON/BSON and Excalibur does not. If you need BTS to support formatted documents like PDF and MS Word. Please consider putting in feature request and get the community to vote for it. -- Fair Winds, Mark. Mark Ashworth Informix Extensibility Architect HCL Technologies Inc.
