That's one of the many things that are wrong with the Informix CLI ODBC drivers. It requires a lot of difficult configuration on each client while with other alternatives (see the FAQ) you can configure most things on the server. Much simpler and faster. You also gain security features that are extremely important in most cases and that's not available with the Informi solution.
