Ah yes, but this doesn't cover the situation we face daily, in which our operator is doing backups on five or more machines at the same time, (plus needing smoke and potty breaks) and doesn't get to a reel change for ten or twenty minutes. In the mean time customers are dialing our agents (24 hour a day reservations system). We =CAN'T= allow the system to stop responding. Call it locked, or "frozen"; doesn't matter. By design or side-effect; doesn't matter. This isn't intended to sound like a flame. It's just I'm not sure the developers at Informix have a deep, heart-felt understanding of what problems a 7x24 operation face and what "OnLine" =really= means. When we first raised this problem with Informix support (over a year ago), they told us "Just do your archives in the morning, before you let your users on the system." Anyway, I was just commenting on the work-around we developed to support our customers when Informix told us they had no solution to the problem. -crl -- Chad R.
