I know nothing about Informix but I am curious about this database. How are Informix databases setup, say, for a small to medium sized company? Is it SQL statements? What programming language is used? What are some differences between Informix and other market leaders such as Oracle? Thanks

Where do I begin ( to tell the story of how great a life can be... ) First of all, there are 2 major engines - Dynamic Server (IDS) or Standard Engine (SE). SE is a piece of piss ( sorry, cake ). IDS requires a lot more knowledge of RDBMS's especially if you want to do the job right. If you want to know a little more about Informix in general, get a book, Informix Unleashed, as this has an awful lot about Informix engines, development tools, databases, etc... > What are some differences between Informix and other market leaders such as Oracle? Thanks For this answer, you'll have to look through this newsgroup, you just missed a very detailed and lengthy discussion on the differences between Oracle and Informix - which I am not going to precis for you !! Alternatively, check out the Informix FAQ @ www.iiug.org Sean
