-408 error return to client apps...

Hi netters, Yesterday, one of me Informix engine 5.0 running on a HP9000 380s reported the following error : >...cannot open mirror chunk... errno = 24 the message went spuriously in the console. I took the obvious action, taking the engine offline and re-start. The meassage came back again. The next action I took was to turn down the mirror chunk that was reported to be in error. Howver, this does not help to stop the error messages. The informix tech support advised me to re-boot my system and this time the message stoped. I thought everything was fine after I have check all the possible statistics about the engine after a colleague of whom has an application that make connection to the database periodically fails to connect to the engine. Once connected, the apps can run normally without problems. What I have observed was that randomly, client apps succeed in connecting to the engine othertimes it fails. The returned error code is -408. I do not know what is happening, I would like a better understanding of what is happening before I take the worst case solution of tbunload my databases and re-install I-STAR and Online to make my system runs again.
