Nulls vs Blanks?

We are starting a project based on Online server 7.10 using PowerBuilder as the front end and have run up against whether to make unset values null or force them to blank strings. This also brings up the question of how we should handle unset values for other data types. I'm interested in the opinions of anyone with more experience in this. Thanks for any input, -Wes
