Informix in the Cloud

Informix gurus, I've been asked by our IT Director to look into cloud computing, the famous IT buzz word today. They were asking me if it were possible to replicate our ERP system running Informix on HPUX to the cloud for D/R using replication. I'm not an Informix guru by no means. We are running Jenzabar CX on Informix 10.00.HC 9 on HPUX 11i v2. In the next few months we will be going to Informix 11.5 on HPUX 11i v3. Right now we are running production on a PA-RISC rp7410 HP 9000 system and D/R on a smaller PA-RISC rp7410 system. We are just starting to play with HDR but keep getting pushed back for using our D/R HP 9000 for development stuff. Next year we are replacing our HP PA-RISC servers with HP Integrity servers. But when we started to look at a second Integrity server for D/R, my boss wanted to start looking at cloud possibilities. Since I've not done HDR replication yet, I'm not sure how and if that is possible to the cloud. We have been told by our vendor, Jenzabar that we can't use Informix Enterprise (ER) replication. The application is limited to HDR only. I hope my questions are not dumb but here are some things I just don't know. * Is anyone doing Informix replication to the cloud? * If I'm running a production HPUX Integrity server running Jenzabar CX on Informix 11, does the server on the other end have to be an Integrity server? * On the same note, can I have my production HPUX Integrity server connected to a SAN and use SAN based replication to another site or cloud? Not sure how HDR fits into this equation if you can just do a SAN to SAN replication. I'm not sure of top management's goal of D/R as we are moving forward. But I think they want to replicate and be able to come up in the cloud if a hurricane was approaching or we just needed to switch over to the cloud because of a fire. I still believe our best option is an Integrity server in production running on a SAN or local storage and a scaled down Integrity server on a SAN or local storage at our co-location / DR site. Then next year we can experiment with both HDR and possible SAN to SAN replication. The difference from the cloud is I have control at our co-location site. Our site is about 10 miles away and we have a 50 MB pipe between production and co-location / DR site. Hello! You should first read somethings, to understand how are the replication features you could "best fit", according to your real needs, ok? A nice link would be this: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/display/ifmxchatwithlab/Home There´s a presentation called "*Virtualization and Cloud Computing* *with IDS* " that could explain some things. Additional information could be obtained on the Information Center, there´s an entire book called "Replication Guide" this is the link: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.sa.doc/rep.h tm Hope this helps your initial doubts. Any additional information could be answered by our friends, here, ok? Best regards! Obs: you didn´t mention it, but the brand new 11.70 version (Panther) has also some new features on cloud techs, that I think you´ll like: The new grid features are also awesome! *Cloud Computing and Virtualization: *The Informix Flexible Grid compliments the absolute low cost of administration and makes Informix a perfect choice for virtualization and public and private clouds. Informix 11.70 allows to backup to and restore Informix database data from and to cloud storage. Storing data on the cloud provides scalable storage that can be accessed from the web.
