Well you can also check out the news.com article as well. But what does this have to do with Informix? Not a whole hell of a lot. The crux of the situation is that everyone says that the RDBMS market is over saturated. And quiet frankly most of the market is. The money is in the front end apps which get changed frequently, and in the professional services sector. Since Informix has declared yet again that it is a RDBMS or OO-RDBMS, then it makes money by Database sales and Prof. Services. (If they can locate that high end staff...) Rather than listen to the IIUG act as apologists or *unpaid* interpreters for Informix, lets listen to what Bob F. is talking about. He says that Informix can not compete with commodity databases like Microsoft. Thus he wants to focus on the high end and higher profit margin of Data Warehousing or the neato niffty OO-RDBMS niche which is still trying to be defined. OK, that's a short term solution. It explains Informix's lack of enthusiasm for Linux, since it touches on a market place which falls outside the scope of Bob's vision. Bottom line, Informix still considers there room within the RDBMS core technology market place. (Even though they are missing out on Linux....) But getting back to Oracle's situation. It has no effect on Informix, since those who are going to choose Oracle are choosing them for reasons Informix has yet been able to compete against. -Mikey (Now taking reservations for my next dumpster diving vacation within the heart of beautiful Silicon Valley. ;-) Lina301020@aol.com wrote: > Wondering what this group thinks about Ellison's newest: to personally > oversee product development.
