On my hardware platform (sun4), the upgrade from 4.0 involved changing lock methods. This was mentioned in the release notes. My notes don't mention what the error message was, but, like you, I wasn't able to open the database at all. I don't know if this is what you're seeing, but you could try the following: setenv RESETLOCK Go into isql. If you can now open the database, do so, and run update statistics. Then exit isql, and unsetenv RESETLOCK If you still can't open the database when RESETLOCK is set, then your problem is a different one. Good luck! -- Harry Bochner bochner@das.harvard.edu
