Re: upgrade from 7.23 to 7.3 on HP

In the global scheme of memory required to run a large DBMS, 1.7 MB per
process change doesn't sound like much - if you have 50 processes that's
less than 100MBytes difference. Big systems start at about 2GB
physical, and head north from there. If that is crippling a large
system, you are living *way* too close to the edge. Buy some more
memory. If the machine is doing anything important, it's worth it.
A gig of memory for HP's can't run more than $10000, probably less.
What do you mean, "cant be allocated"? Are you running out of swap
space, or virtual address space? You may be getting acquainted with
HPUX 10.x's shared and virtual memory architectural limitations, which
are considerable. The only solution to that is to adjust to stay
within them, migrate to 11.x (64 bit) or to another platform
altogether.
