You make no mention of what version or type of Informix you are using (SE or IDS? 7, 9, 10?) so I can't be specific, but the following URL will download a PDF that includes a description of the system catalogues: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/ct21nna.pdf It is for an IDS database, and assumes you know SQL. If you know nothing or very little about using SQL, now is the time to go looking for some information - there is some more documentation at the IBM web site and plenty of on-line resources.
