Re: database reorg for large databases?

When using alter you may want to consider generating your own checkpoints
WARNING not tested just cooked it up because i lost the original....
so check it please....
dbaccess sysmaster <<!
create procedure mycheckpoint()
define dirty decimal (4,3);
let dirty = 0;
while (1=1)
select sum ( lru_nmod / ( lru_nfree + lru_nmod))
into dirty
from syslrus;
-- if buffer cache is more then 75 % dirty then checkpoint!!!!!
if ( dirty > 0.75 ) then
system "onmode -c";
else
system "sleep 5";
end if
end while
end procedure
!
before loading set LRU_MAX_DIRTY and LRU_MIN_DIRTY in your
onconfig to 99
bounce your engine
then execute the spl and start your loading/alter etc.
have cut load times in half doing this... checkpoint writes are MUCH
more efficient then lru writes when huge ammount of data is loaded/rewritten.
however this does not beat HPL in express mode; it comes close though....
and if alter etc do not forget to set and configure PDQ!!!
ahum when done before bounceing the engine do not forget to
create a checkpoint!!!!!!!!
See you
Superboer.
