Smart Blob Extent Sizing
Posted in 2010
IDS 11.50.FC5 AIX 5.3 (4k page size) When you assign a table to use a smart blob, you specify logging (or not), keep access time (or not) and an extent size. It is the calculation of that extent size that has my client puzzled. Is there some formula or guideline that can be used to assist in deriving the best extent size to use for the types of documents being stored? Some item being stored are images (tiffs) and PDFs ... although the contents are not limited to those types alone. And, to follow up with a few additional questions ... 1. Will more than one document be stored within an extent if space exists? 2. Does a bufferpool need to be created for the extent size (if not the standard page size) specified if one of that pagesize does not currently exist? Also: is there a particular reason why smart blob spaces themselves were fixed to the page size of the instance? Thank you in advance.
