create login user???

Hi there, I am new to Informix. My background is Oracle, MS-SQL Server and Sybase. I just want to get a hand on Informix to see how it behaves. I downloaded the trail version of Informix Dynamic Server 7.3. Installed the database server. Created some spaces and databases. How do I create a login user? Currently I just use the Informix login user created during the installation. The only administrator tool I can see is the IECC and in the IECC I don't see any place where I can create a new login user. Thanks in advance for your help Tung Nguyen

Informix uses the host computer's login (on UNIX - I don't know about NT).
As the DBA, you need to grant permission to the user.
e.g. login name: angus
SQL to grant 'angus' access to the database:
GRANT connect TO angus;Unlike Oracle, you don't need a separate login for the database.
Note that all the Informix documantation is available online via their
web site at http://www.informix.com
Specifically for IDS7.3, go to
http://www.informix.com/answers/english/pids73.htm

NT is the same as Unix...except for that it is NT......yuk
The user must be an NT user...and Informix for NT only allows
a maximum of 8 characters to be used for a login..
To create a user go to-->User manager, Add..etc....(it's self
explanatory....)...
You still have to grant rights to the user(Connect, Resource
etc...)

You don't have to grant rights to the user. Default are the public-rights.

That assumes that his database has granted priveleges to 'public' in the
first place which is NOT default behavior and often undesireable.
Art S. Kagel
Hello Art,
when this is not the default behavior, how can I configure it ?
Our default is CONNECT rights for public.
The problems are the default rigths for every new created table.
If I create an new table, public gets automatically all rigts for this table.
Is this configurable ?
TIA
