Onbar output
Posted in 2016
The poster asked whether ON-Bar can back up to local disk or whether a storage manager and tapes are required. Answer: a storage manager is always involved, but a bundled one ships with Informix. On 12.10 the included PSM backs up to disk out of the box; on his version (11.70.FC8, SUSE Linux 11) the bundled ISM (a mini Networker) can be configured to archive to disk, though less simply than PSM, with the 11.70 docs giving the specifics. Third-party managers (TSM, EMC/Legato Networker) are the alternative. The poster accepted the advice.

Hi,
Can I use onbar to backup to a local disk or I need to have an storage manager
and tapes ?
Thanks in advance.
Using ISM (Informix Storage Manager) if not using version 12.10, you can
use OnBar to backup to a local disk; ISM is a mini Networker
Otherwise you have to use a Storage Manager such as TSM or Legato
Networker (now EMC Networker), etc

Version and platform? In v11.70 and later you can use the delivered
stoarge manager, PSM, to backup to disk. Indeed it comes installed and
configured to backup to disk.

I mispoke, v11.70 still has the ISM storage manager. It can be configured
to archive to disk, so you CAN use that. It is just not as simple as it is
when using the newer PSM storage manager. Check the v11.70 documentation
for specifics.
