The INFORMIXDIR specifies where to find the software and libraries for the engine you are connecting to as a default. Each app will have its INFORMIXDIR and INFORMIXSERVER set according to the default it needs normally. Access to the other engines will be through TCP/IP or pipe connections. Art S. Kagel
