I think that Art has covered the locking issue for you. (Check the
'onstat -k', the SMI table "syslocks, and the page-level locking on
your tables.)
My sermon today is on other ways to find out "the scoop" on an Informix
topic.
You have already found the wonderful cameraderie of c.d.i. (congratulations!)
Are you aware of the c.d.i. archives at the web site of the International
Informix Users Group? See http://www.iiug.org . It has a full, searchable
archive of all the past messages from this forum, which often contain the
answer to your question. While there, join! It is free, and has lots
of nifty benefits. Also, be sure to check out the software repository there.
You can find gems such as Lester Knutsen's SQL scripts to show locks and
who is holding them, and many other DBA and programmer utilities.
As a member of your local User Group you will have a good crowd of 'mates'
to call for help and a peek at their copy of the doco. Perhaps they can
loan you the CD-ROM version until yours arrives? If there isn't one in
your area then consider starting one.
Do you have the Informix docs themselves in CD form? I thought they were
going to start including that CD as the "standard" documentation. If so,
then it makes a great tool for searching out all the references to a
particular topic. Though they have lots of room for improvement, I still
give them an enthusiastic "squeal of approval." I was a beta tester of
that program, and liked it even then.
There are several manuals available from the Informix web site. (As I'm
on a plane, I can't verify which ones at the moment. Probably not the
OnLine Administrator's Guide, but still some helpful manuals.) Be sure to
check that out and see which one's can help you. Best of all--they're free.
(You may have to have a support contract to see them, though.) See
http://www.informix.com . You can search the site for old TechInfo articles
on the topic of interest, which can sometimes shed a little light.
Of course, as a last resort you can always call Informix tech support for
this kind of help.
Hope that helps!
