ORACLE ANNOUNCES FREE NATIONWIDE SYMPOSIUM AND SEMINAR SERIES ON SECOND GENERATION, CLIENT/SERVER DEVELOPMENT Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 Address Limitations of First Generation Development Tools Attendees Receive Free Trial Copy of Software REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 7, 1995-Oracle Corp. today announced a nine-week, 26-city symposium and seminar series designed to educate attendees on Designer/2000 and Developer/2000, the company's new products for second generation application development. The series, entitled, "Redefining Productivity: Second Generation Client/Server Tools," is open to all existing and potential Oracle customers free of charge. Attendees have the opportunity to meet with industry analysts and Oracle executives to discuss the limitations of first generation application development and learn how Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 address and overcome these limitations. "Oracle is the leader in client/server application development and generated nearly $400 million in tools revenue in FY1994," said Zach Nelson, vice president of marketing at Oracle. "These seminars will introduce attendees to second generation functionality, like application partitioning and application modeling, found in Oracle's new Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 tool suites." The series consists of six symposiums which will be held in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and 20 seminars in a variety of additional cities throughout the United States between June 15 and August 17 of this year. Each symposium will bring together 250 attendees, industry analysts and Oracle executives to discuss and demonstrate how Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 deliver second generation functionality and work together to overcome the limitations developers experience when working with first generation tools. The seminars will allow smaller audiences, up to 100 attendees per session, to experience hands-on training with Oracle's tools. Topics to be addressed as key factors in second generation development include: Productivity; Designer/2000 and Developer/2000 are the first tools to use the same language (PL/SQL) for programming on both client and server. This enables simple, drag-and-drop application partitioning which results in increased developer productivity and reduced network traffic for more efficient execution of the application. Integration; Tight integration between the tools and the database enables developers to leverage a shared repository which increases productivity through object reuse and reverse engineering. Developers can also take advantage of the robust functionality found in the database (i.e. triggers, stored procedures, replication). Scalability; Second generation tools must support deployment ranging from small workgroups implementing rapid application development (RAD), to model-driven, large enterprise systems. Currently, Oracle has customers deploying Designer/2000 and Developer/2000-based applications to thousands of end-users. Portability; Oracle is the only leading tools provider with the proven ability to port its application development tools to a variety of platforms (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, Motif). Attendees will receive a free 90-day trial copy of Developer/2000 and a 60-day discount opportunity to purchase the tools. Admission to the seminars is free and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Interested parties should call (800) 633-0616 x11. A complete schedule with dates and locations is attached. Developer/2000 and Designer/2000 are Oracle's second generation client/server development tools which bring high-end programming features to Windows developers. Together, Developer/2000 and Designer/2000 offer the most integrated suite for all development, spanning RAD to high-end systems modeling.
