This message tells you that the oninit program cannot allocate any
shared memory to initialize the instance of OnLine because it already
exists. In other words, your instance is already running.
If your instance is *not* running then you can get this same message if
the shared memory segment still remains from the last time that it did
run. You can remove any segments as root using the ipcrm command.
(After viewing the used segments with the ipcs command.)
The '-v' option, though it existed in previous versions, is supported
in the 7.3 release. It is a "verbose" option that will tell you more
about what is happening as the engine comes from an "offline" mode to
the "online" mode. It is mostly there for Informix Technical Support,
but may contain information of interest to DBAs or sysadmins.
