Error accessing IDS 9.4 on Windows

I have finally gotten the trial version of IDS 9.4 running. I can access the stores database using ODBC and Delphi. But when I transfer the test Delphi Application to another PC and try to access it I get "Client host or user is not trusted by the server." I then added this user to the informix group on the IDS trial server but still get the error. Using Windows XP Pro for the IDS testing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Don Gollahon

You would need to connect with a user name and password, or add the client user or machine to %SystemRoot%\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts.equiv on the server. Since entries in hosts.equiv effectively remove security from your machine, connecting with a user name and password is recommended. I'll try that. So, a user has to have an actual login to the physical Informix Server in order to access it? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. This is not required of any other RDBMS I have used. Is this a remnant of Informix being on UNIX where users normally logged-in to the server as a terminal so a user account existed anyway? I'm testing Informix on Windows XP Pro workstation for now. Will a login to attach to a shared directory be sufficient? Thanks Don Gollahon
