Kerry... INet 5.01.WJ2 (and later I assume...) support an environment variable in informix.ini on the client called FET_BUF_SIZE in the [ENVIRONMENT] section. There is also a way to set this on the server side, check the doc (networking), it's different between 7.1 and 7.2. I've found 8192 on both sides to be roughly optimal for us with hefty result sets. The defaults are really lousy, whatever they are. This applies to Inet, I have no experience with Connect yet. FET_BUF_SIZE primarily controls the size of the (result set) buffer that builds up on the server before it gets sent. The result is bigger, fewer packets, and less back and forth acknowledgement. For us that's a big deal, since some users are 15-20 router hops away. Does wonders for throughput though...
