Gaining access to data outside the current database

It is my understanding that with Informix Online one can select, update, delete, etc. information from a table which is not part of the current database using the nomenclature "remotedb:tablename" (assuming the remote database is actually situated on the local site). It is also my understanding that Informix SE cannot perform the same operation. Q1. Is this so ? Q2. Are there any work-arounds for SE using I-NET/STAR or some other Informix product?
