In article <5otqpq$lj2@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, Richard Thomas <richardt@TheMusicStore.co.uk> writes > >...I know, I know, it was an accident, OK!! > >This morning I came in to work and restored OnLine onto our test >machine (a routine operation following a level 0 archive on our >production machine). BUT, it aint working - the log file is full of "Failed >Consistency Check" messages, and queries fail (it would appear that >syscolumns is corrupted). I'm now doing the restore again (and I've >modified our start up script so that it fails if tbtape or tbmonitor are >running!), so that should be OK, but here is my question: > >If the OnLine system is offline and being restored, shouldn't OnLine >stop anyone from bringing the system online until the restore has >finished? Is this a particular problem with our version (see .sig for >details) ? Am I just being dense? > a) It it a problem b) You would have to be very dense to encounter it. On a production system only one or two people should have permission to be able to start Online and they should all be part of a support team who probably all sit next to one another. When a site goes down the whole team soon know about it!! >TIA >Richard. >Richard Thomas -------- The Music Store -------- Brentford, UK >OnLine 5.03.UC2 / SCO Openserver 5.0.2 / Twin P133 with SCO SMP >3rd party mail order application (4GL).
