OK,
Linux Red Hat Kernel Release 2.6.18-371.3.1.el5PAE
Informix version 11.70.UC6GE
Informix Documentation says following which should be legal:
SELECT ship_charge, MAX(ship_weight) maxwgt
FROM orders GROUP BY ship_charge ORDER BY maxwgt;
But somebody issued something like this...
SELECT ship_charge, ship_weight
FROM orders ORDER BY MAX(ship_weight) ;
The informix panicked creating an af file and a shem file. Kicking out 40
users. In fact there was a Network disconnect error (do not remember,
something in the 25000' series.)
I do not want to judge the idea behind the ORDER BY but just looking into why
the IDS server went down instead of issuing a general -201 SQL error.
Anybody has an idea??
Many thanks
Francois
You're making science over a simple (although clearly sad) thing: A bug.
Whenever Informix crashes it's a bug. This maybe a bit of an overstatement
but I assume that risk. You should open a PMR.
And in Informix (recent versions) you can order by a column not contained
in the projection list. The MAX() raise me some doubts, but as you say, at
most a syntax error would be returned.
