It's cheaper than New Era, allows application partioning, is object orientated, has a GUI, has a really cool strategic vision called multi-platforms-can run it-and-no-one-vendor-controls-it, and is gaining far wider acceptance than New Era. In the past three months more books are out on Java than New Era. What gives? Did the Book Publisher's Guild put a hold on New Era books? And what's more, I haven't spent a fortune learning it and experimenting with it. :-) I went and bought Symantec's development environment for Java, which uses Suns' Java compiler. And now Symantec has a Just-in-time C compiler for it. Others are coming. Which tells me two important concepts are going to make it a success: MAINSTREAM and UBIQUITOS. ( Popular and Everywhere ) Can't wait to see INFORMIX come out with INFORMation about what they're doing with Java. With a name like INFORMIX, I know they'll INFORM me from time to time. I hope it's soon. My eyes are roaming over to that SQL Server download, and look, there's that Oracle download...And JDBC is coming... Hmmmm...what do I do now? :-) -- \\\\|// (6 6) ==============================---o00--(_)--00o---============================ Tim Schaefer tschaefe@encore.com tschaefe@shadow.net Encore Computer Corp http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe =============================================================================
