In other words the problem has gone away and error logging is now working again. I am skeptical about the permissions thing - because the only ones of us to run the application in development (hence generate the error logfile) all belong to the same group and have never had problems writing to the file. On the other hand this (permissions) MUST be what happened since that is the only way I can re-create it. Thank you all for our input - maybe next time I'll look a bit further first. j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker | "A lawyer is a learned gentleman Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA| who rescues your estate from your jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com | enemies and keeps it for himself."
