In response to your last mail: >Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, using TCP/IP and SLIP/PPP to >connect to an Online engine. We want to use a Windows front end, probably >NewEra, to connect to an Online 5 engine but need to allow for some users >to use dial up connections. > >We're told that > >a) its a hard thing to do >b) it runs slowly and erratically I use personally such a connection on slow lines ( via modem at 9600 or 14400) since 4 years, and it works perfectly, without any problem. I use several connection type : IP encapsulated in ARA (AppleTalk Remote Access), and also with direct TCP/IP - PPP connection. It work fine. The hardest part is certainly to configure correctly your PPP server, but in this cas there is nothing to do with Informix. The middleware I use, is not INet or IStar, this is CI-Link. Tell me if you need more details about our remote IP connection.
