Re: How can I start Informix SE
Posted in 1998
Informix-SE is nothing like Informix-OL. There is no tbinit. You need
$INFORMXIDIR set to point to the directory you have installed Informix
into, and $INFORMIXDIR/bin appended to your $PATH. If you are using v7
there's some stuff you need to do with sqlhosts (and /etc/services) as
well.
You should then be able to load 'dbaccess' on the machine with Informix
loaded to create a database. When you kick of the dbaccess program it
starts it's own sqlexec back end, and data requests go from your
keyboard, to dbaccess, to sqlexec. sqlexec gets the stuff from the
database, sends it back to dbaccess which then displays it on your
screen. Same thing with ISQL and any program you have compiled, either
to executables (in which case 'myprog.4ge' is in place of 'dbaccess') or
RDS (when 'fglgo' or your own customised runner is in place of
'dbaccess').
V5 documentation used to come in the form of a great big pile of books,
but these Answers Online and Answers Online Chronicles (which is the one
you want) seem to be taking over.
