RE: bottom margin and page trailer
Posted in 1998
There's a good diagram of the relationship between the various areas of the report page in my book on ISQL. Roughly: * The top margin TM is always blank. * The bottom margin BM is always blank. * Assume the page length is PL. * The page header PH, which contains a fixed number of lines, starts to appear immediately after the top margin. * The page trailer PT, which also contains a fixed number of lines, appears immediately before the bottom margin. * The space available for the other sections of the report is, therefore, PL - (TM + PH + PT + BM). * The left margin is always blank; column 1 is the first column after the left margin. * The right margin is only used when WORDWRAP is used with no explicit right margin. I think that covers it. In your example, if the page trailer consists of 3 lines, then lines 68-72 are blank (BM=5), and the page trailer appears on lines 65-67. The manual says that the bottom margin affects how close to the bottom of the page Informix displays the page trailer. So, if my page length is 72 and my bottom margin is 5 ( wouldn't you know it, that is what some other programmer has set them to in the report I am due to hack! ) then on which line do print statements appear within the page trailer? What confuses me is that the in the page trailer control block there is a lot of print statements to perform and I don't kow how many I can have before it goes off the end of the page. Any help given would be extremely very much appreciated. Cheers, Ian. Tedious 'office speak' part 3: "Let's go scuba in the think tank."
