RE: temp tables and serial columns

I use vi everyday (even on 'doze) and I have used awk an sed, but gave them up for Perl.I can/did use dbschema piped to a file and grind on it a bit to do the work I discussed. It just seems like the whole concept of a serial in a temp table is just BOGUS.Why did informix do that in the first place? And with no override, ... well that is just sloppy design.I have no clue what other db's do for temps in this respect.> Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2007 19:58:55 +0000> Subject: Re: temp tables and serial columns> From: obnoxio@serendipita.com> To: garage_dba@hotmail.com> CC: fred@bloomberg.com; informix-list@iiug.org> > > Bill64bits said:> >> > "fred" <fred@bloomberg.com> wrote in message> > news:45F1B16C.7020105@bloomberg.com...> >> select INT::serial_column, ....> >> INTO TEMP fred;> >> > So, if there are 100 columns in the table and I want them all in the> > temp, I must list all 100 columns in the select> > (instead of *) so that I can cast one column to INT ?> > That seems lame.> > I guess IBM does not cater to lazy programmers or dba's. :-)> > It certainly doesn't cater to programmers who can't be arsed to learn a> bit of vi or awk. :op> > -- > Bye now,> Obnoxio> > "I'm astonished anyone pays real money for this crap."> -- Cosmo> > -- > This message has been scanned for viruses and> dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is> believed to be clean.>
