So your database will have the same structure locally and remotely, but certain "tables" will just be synonyms that point to a remote table. Network traffic will of course occur when such a synonym is accessed. However, it depends on your WAN setup how fast a network connection is established and released on-demand. I have never tried such a setup over a WAN, so your mileage may vary. I don't quite understand what you mean by 'using the "config.data" stored central if involved'. If you are used some kind of replication mechanism (trigger based replication should be sufficient if updates are rare), the data should be identical on both sides for most practical purposes. Or is "split-second accuracy" a requirement?
