Copying over .dat and .idx files in SE 4

I have to add several hundred thousand rows to a couple of tables on an SE 4 database. If I were to add them via SQL the sqlexec statements would eat up 100% of the processor for quite a while. The tables that need to be updated are at 'live' sites. One of the applications that accesses the these tables has a response timeout that will time out because the server is busy processing my command. This results in the client process going offline (b/c it thinks the connection is down b/c of timeout). What I would like to do is this: Create the tables as I want them on a test/lab machine. Take the 'live' server down (stop all sqlexecs and database accesses). Remove table__123.dat and table__123.idx. Copy in the new tables with the same filenames. Reboot the machine. (Could possibly restart the server app, but reboot is easier to do from remote). Run bcheck against the new tables. I've done some testing offline and it _appears_ to work. But I wanted to get some other opinions on this. Is copying over tables an accepted practice with Informix SE? Has anyone done something like this? This is one of those -- "It REALLY needs to get done and you have three days to figure out how to do it safely without interupting operations" scenarios. I have to make a call soon -- just how risky is this? Thanks for your help! Herschel
