There is indeed a way to swirch the vt100 into 132 column mode and back again. It's an ASCII sequence which you could output in a first page header and on last row. I don't know the sequence off-hand (I for one do not live/eat/breathe HEX) but I have certainly done it in the past. BTW - if you are using vt100 emulators they don't always support this feature!
