Hi, We running Informix-SE 2.0 on IBM RS/6000 since 1986, we also use Informix-4GL RDS designer tools produce our applications. Recently, the database server was overload, we also got IDS for Linux last year, we tried to port our applications to Linux server, but it seems diffcult. Because our applications was design in Informix-4GL RDS and compiled to P-Code, but only ESQL/C in Linux we can find. So, does any way could we port our applications to IDS for Linux? In my memories Informix-4GL program can convert to ESQL/C style code, but I don't know how to do that. Does any suggestions to me? or what kind of Informix product can do it? BTW: In older version we can find "ISQL" this tool, does it be port to IDS for Linux? ot it can be replace with other tools? Thanks !! - Kevin Liu - of NYUST MIS Dep.

Currently you can port your code to D4GL which is available for Linux and gain the ability to present your applications on a number of runtime platforms. Checkout Dynamic 4GL on the Informix WEB Site. Informix is expected to release Classic 4GL (C4GL and R4GL/IDS) shortly also. First you would need C4GL. It sounds like you only have R4GL which only generates p-code. With C4GL it is possible to generate ESQL/C output. Since C4GL V7.10 the generated ESQL/C code has been fully compatible with ESQL/C, as C4GL now comes with the normal ESQL compiler rather than the 4GL specific ESQL compilers that came with earlier versions. However, you would still need C4GL for Linux to link the code since the 4GL specific functions are not contained in the base ESQL/C libraries. So generating ESQL/C will not help. > BTW: In older version we can find "ISQL" this tool, does it be port to > IDS for Linux? ot it can be replace with other tools? Informix has not mentioned any plans yet to port ISQL although the IIUG Linux Advocacy Committee has been pressing for it. Art S. Kagel
