NewEra Bug - Part 2
Posted in 1995
Okay, I found the bug in the code, ch 6 of the Developing Graphical Apps book.
Turns out that an apply() event issues a BEGIN WORK but never a COMMIT. So
when you exit, all your mods are neatly rolled out. I ran dbaccess
concurrently with NewEra and sure enough, as soon as I quit NE, all my
data reverted.
Solution: put a COMMIT WORK statement before the window.close() event.
Probably a better place in terms of transaction scope, but good enough for
testing.
I leave to everyone's judgement the wisdom of issuing a buried BEGIN WORK
without a corresponding COMMIT WORK. My opinion is unprintable.
Just for comparison, it took me 10 minutes to get a master-detail screen
working in Delphi, by following the (correct) instructions in 'Delphi for
Dummies'.
Thanks to KerryS and the others that replied. All help is most appreciated
(and needed :-) ).
