I don't use it myself, but we have a user that uses it and is very content with it. It doesn't write to the database. It maintains it's own "views" localy, and you can share these among several users. It does however use quite some space for sorting or whatever it is. At that customers installation large files are generated in the /tmp directory when some reports are running. I haven't checked into this any further.
