Small database - No. Disks
Posted in 1995
We use Informix On-line as the database in our application. The database is normally very small takink up an initial size of 150Mb and never growing to more than 600Mb. This is not a large datbase and can easily fit onto the average size disk on most UNIX machines (1Gb). So is there any advantage to adding extra disks to spread my rootdbs, Physical log etc. The system is mostly READ-ONLY & some UPDATES during the day & a large amount INSERTS & DELETE (up to 35% of the database is deleted and reinserted by nite) at night. Any statistics or rules of thumb - keeing in mind that the database is small - would be appreciated.
