My main concern is not Informix, but the limitation in the operating
system. I had an AIX system, where I specified lots of memory in
Informix, but AIX still had to break it up - could not handle such a
large contigous chunk. I was not able to only have one virtual segment
on this platform.
I want to know if Solaris has the same limitation ?

Hi,
On UNIX systems INFORMIX reserves memory in blocks( this is 8k each
one).
Your 20Gg of Memory are 20 Gb / 8Kb of contigous blocks. If you see
in your onstat -g seg one virtual value, there are one contiguos
Virtual segment. Otherwise, remember that INFORMIX manage a RESIDENT
portion, that is other memory segment, so at the end the minimun
segments in INFORMIX are one resident and one virtual.
regards.
