The idea that databases require so much hand-holding really gets to the point, that maybe an easy-to-use database is what everyone really wants. I mean, really, I don't give a rats ass about LRU's and update statistics, what I really need is a place to store the data and get it when I need it. Does that make me a bad developer? No, and it doesn't make a complicated database bad either. It just means that bad things will happen if the right things are not done and people need to be aware of the consequences. Pick one database and it's easy to use, with the caveat that it may not scale, pick another and it scales but you need to wear a propeller hat, pick another and it doesn't scale and it isn't easy to use but management likes it, and developers love it for the billable even if the applications they write suck so fucking bad. :-) There are compromises in all of the choices. I tend to think that applications drive databases, not the other way around, and evidenced by the success of Oracle and Microsoft. As far as DB2 even being relevant, I hope IBM tanks so fucking hard after the fucking layoffs they are doing right now that they go out of business. My prayer is for IBM to fucking burn in hell a thousand deaths for what they are doing to their people and the mess they are propagating at their customer sites with IGS, what a fucking bunch of dumbshits running that company. Sorry, dint mean to rant... :-) > http://www.grumpycunt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6534 Yeah this ain't your picture either. :-)

You're missing the point entirely. It's got nothing to do with ease of use and everything to do with understanding the basics of programming and the basics of programming against a database. Case in point: "I needed the total value of this field in the database, so I pulled all the records across to Java objects and then added them up using a method." "Did you consider SELECT SUM(column)?" "I did, but I'm pretty sure Java would be quicker, so I did it that way." That has got fuck all to do with LRUs and applies equally IDS and MySQL. -- Bye now, Obnoxio "I'm astonished anyone pays real money for this crap." -- Cosmo -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.
Well I'm fuck sorry for being so fuck all stupid about the fucking thing. :-) Have a great fucking day! Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > Tool said: >> And this is a bad thing?
