RE: ONBAR
Posted in 1997
You will NOT get OnBar working with only the Backup Guide, it works with
a Storage Manager such as Legato, HP Omniback, ADSM from IBM, every
storage manager hast its own procedures, they don=B4t have standard=20
configurations, but all of them keep the same principle:
Administrative Tasks
Scheduling
Backup/Restore
The OnBar is just the utility Informix provides to communicate with =
those
Storage Managers, using the X/OPEN API (XBSA Interface), the API is
available for "C" languagge, so you can write your own OnBar, but =
anyway,
OnBar is very simple to use, because the JOB actually is being executed
by the Storage Manager. Oh, I almost forgot, Yes David Williams, you=20
are right!, Informix ships a little storage manager to use for the =
Windows NT
platform, which still uses the XBSA Interface to communicate with the
onbar utility, but as long as it is from Informix, it is a simple =
storage manager
that uses the same ONCONFIG file where you can define the devices.
I really think that Informix should ship the little storage manager for =
the Unix=20
version, because there are many people that will not afford any Storage =
Manager available and certified by Informix Software, Inc.
If you are using Solaris 2.5.x, and if you have the CD Solstice Backup, =
then
you should download the Informix Business Suite from Legato.

I believe that they are at least the OWS for NT backup guide mentions
that OnBar uses them.
