Yup, what he said.
I guess re-sizing tables on a monthly basis with a 24/7 database and several million rows is pretty well guaranteed to upset the users, so can't be all bad ;-)
Plus, how well do the later variants of IDS cope with the "Swiss Cheese" effect in a table where deletes often take place (especially when varchars are present), with regard to intelligently filling the holes - this can cause a spectacularly fragmentary table and hence necessitate a rebuild of the table anyway, regardless of the extent sizing strategy!
