Re: Pb searching a word in a string

At the risk of sounding like I am spamming, let me take a stab at elaborating on the status of Text DataBlades... 1. You can currently get a PLS Text DataBlade for the Illustra Server, which will allow you to do exactly what you want -- quickly. (Although I don't know if you want to switch to Illustra now, just before the IUS comes out. You might want to try it for some prototyping....) 2. On the Universal Server, there will be three (and eventually more) options for searching text from Verity, Excalibur and PLS. One of the most confusing aspects of text searching in IUS is going to be figuring out which blade to use. Specifically, there will be a basic functionality blade available from both Verity and Excalibur bundled with the IUS. (Although I have heard maybe not immediately at the IUS beta in a couple of weeks -- check with Informix) Then, if you want more functionality, you can purchase the PLS blade from Informix OR you can go to Verity or Excalibur and talk to them about upgrades. I do not think it wise for me to discuss either the Verity or Excalibur blades or their availability, but you should be able to find out more by either talking to them directly (www.verity.com or www.xrs.com) or by contacting Informix Oakland (where DataBlade development is headquartered). I would like to point out however, that PLS does provide just the functionality you are looking for in both the Illustra blade and in the IUS blade. In addition, PLS has worked with *very* large text databases for several years. We currently have customers with up to 600G (at a single customer site) of text data indexed with our search technology in an interactive on-line environment. SO...if I was looking for a solution for a huge database, I might want to go straight to the PLS blade instead of with the bundled version of text searching that will be available in the IUS beta. If you would like to know more about PLS's product, please feel free to contact me directly, or contact Informix.
