Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

You can get a lot of mileage out of the SVR4 'truss' utility when
diagnosing weird system screwups. Run 'truss pwd' for a flavour
of the output -- essentially it tracks all system calls across the
process/kernel interface. Useful flags are '-p PID' to attach to
a running process, '-f' to follow across a fork, and '-t ...' where
... is the subset of system calls you are interested in. My guess
is that you've somehow created a circularity in the filesystem
hierarchy such that repeatedly opening '..' doesn't ultimately
lead back to '/', possibly by dubious use of 'ln'.
