Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Pushpa Kumara, on IDS 11.50, wanted to drop one in-use chunk from a temp dbspace while online. Art Kagel suggested dropping and recreating the whole dbspace with fewer or smaller chunks. Asked for an easier way, he said that if the chunk is in use because the tblspace tblspace was extended into it, dropping and rebuilding the dbspace is the only way.

Hi,
i have informix ids 11.50 server and it's online now i need to drop one chunk
in tempdbs but when i'm try to drop it it's say's it's using onstat -d show
it's used some size so is there any way to drop it while server in onlie
note:- my tempdbs has more chunks and i have two temp dbs
Thanks
Pushpa
The quickest way may be to drop the entire tempdbs dbspace then recreate it
with fewer or smaller chunks.

Yes. The easy way is to just drop that chunk, but you cannot do that if
the chunk is in use. If the 'in use' was caused by the dbspace's
TABLESPACE TABLESPACE being expanded with an extent in that chunk, then the
ONLY way is to drop the whole dbspace and rebuild it again without the
chunk you wanted to free. It's not only the easy way, it's the ONLY way.
