I tried posting this a couple days ago, but it seems to have gotten lost somewhere in the long trip from Montana... We are in the market for an SQL based DBMS to run on a platform of Networked '486s running Unix. Some of our tables may contain upwards of 20 million rows. We may want tables on seperate disks, or perhaps on seperate machines. Fault tolerance - i.e. mirroring, etc - is critical, as is speed. We would like to develop using a combination of embedded SQL in C and a 4GL. A good 4GL user interface would also be nice. We are considering Informix Online, with 4GL and I-Star, but haven't ruled out Oracle, Ingress, Access, Empress or Recital. I would appreciate any/all recommendations, for or against the above products, and would be especially interested in comparisons between them. Thank-you in advance. ----------/\\-/\\------------------------------------------ | /\\ /\\ Chuck Swenson | | /\\ /\\ icsg8003@cs.montana.edu | \\ /\\ /\\ icsg8003@mtsunix1.bitnet | \\_ /\\ /\\ | | /\\ /\\ /\\/\\ M O N T A N A | / /\\/\\ /\\ /\\ Big .Sig Country | / /\\ /\\ /\\ /\\/\\ | |_/\\ /\\ /\\ * /\\/\\ /\\/\\ "Dental-floss capitol | \\ /\\ /\\ /\\ /\\/\\/\\ of the world" | \\ |---------------------------------------- \\__/-\\|
