IDS install failing
Posted in 2013
A user reported that installing what he called "IDS 7.11 FC5" on AIX 6.1 aborted at the Prerequisite Verification Check, saying system libraries were missing ("Install unix and then restart...") even after adding bos.adt.include and bos.adt.lib; the installer never named the actual missing prerequisite. Replies focused on the version number, arguing 7.11 would be nearly 20 years old and incompatible with AIX 6.1; the poster eventually clarified he actually meant 11.70. No fix for the prerequisite check failure is recorded in the thread.

I am trying to install IDS 7.11 FC5 on an AIX server *****:/usr/informix/SERVER/doc#> uname -a AIX ***** 1 6 00CA27A04C00 But if fails right at the beginning. At first I was missing 2 libraries, but they are now installed: *****:/usr/informix/SERVER/doc#> lslpp -L bos.adt.include bos.adt.lib bos.adt.libm bos.loc.* bos.rte bos.rte.libc Fileset Level State Type Description (Uninstaller) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- bos.adt.include 6.1.8.1 C F Base Application Development Include Files bos.adt.lib 6.1.8.0 C F Base Application Development Libraries bos.adt.libm 6.1.8.0 A F Base Application Development Math Library bos.loc.iso.en_US 6.1.7.15 C F Base System Locale ISO Code Set - U.S. English bos.rte 6.1.8.0 C F Base Operating System Runtime bos.rte.libc 6.1.8.0 C F libc Library Now I just get the following, and it exists the install. Prerequisite Verification Check ------------------------------- required (6100-08 detected) required (12.1.0.0 detected) One or more prerequisite system libraries are not installed on your computer. Install unix and then restart the IBM Informix installation program. The installation cannot succeed until the minimum requirements are met. For more information about the prerequisites, see your Installation Guide or check with your System Administrator. PRESS <ENTER> TO ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING -> OK: Any ideas ? I've looked at the install notes, but can not see what I am missing, and the install is also not telling me what i am missing. If you really mean 7.11, the software is very close to 20 years old, and will need support for similarly archaic versions of AIX. It would not feature GLS, for example. You should not be using it. It is not guaranteed Y2K-compliant, for example. -- Jonathan Leffler <jonathan.leffler@gmail.com> #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix - v2013.0521 - http://dbi.perl.org "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused." --001a11c27eecf77c1904e75bde7a

IDS version 7.11 is VERY OLD, it was new in 1995 over 18 years ago when the AIX version was probably 2.1. I'm guessing that even the installation is not compatible with AIX version 6.1. Art Art S. Sorry for only getting to this now. The e-mails are not getting through to my mailbox, so I had to log into IIUG to see if my post went through. The version is 11.7 yes, not 7.11 - my mistake, sorry.
