Kill -9 from Harry

Subject: Re: Unix kill -9 and Informix SE??? Harry...we have 2.10 versions, but do use a killer programs with kill -9; It is written in C, and takes the processes, sorts numerically so children are last, then tries a kill -15 on the last child; if it fails, it does a kill -9, and so on UP the list of children, ending with the parent. (but the you know this is the way it should be done in Unix anyway :-))!) We carefully programmed it to kill the last child process first, and work up to the parent. Problems occur, I believe, if the only process killed is the parent, and you use -9; the process you see with "who". A good killer should be ok; at least in our older versions of SQL it is. Any that do not die well, usually have other problems, like stuck hardware! Ann Barnes
