pop-up-window

I am in the process of developing some pop-up-windows in 4gl. It works beautiful but only problem is that if the table is over 100 rows then it is very tedious to find what you are lookingfor. I would like to know how other sites designed the pop-up-window so they can narrow the search? Currently, user press CTRL-E to display pop-up window. The items in window are vendor code and name. There are many ways to handle to narrow your search. But I like to hear how other sites handle it. Thanks.
