Re: onconfig & sqlhosts files on-line v7

Your environment is set up the way it needs to be for a server that
is connect through sockets to another server, and this is the most
important function of the server.
Check out the sqlhosts file and see if there are any other servers listed
that
you need to connect to. If you are not doing any tcp connections, then YES
you should change the server to onipcshm (shared memory) and change the
NETTYPE command to
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,8,CPUIf the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file lists more that one entry for this
server
using an alias name (Informix recommends $ONCONFIG_tcp)
that is fine just make sure the other one has the onipcshm connection.
Also check the $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG to see if an ALIAS has been
defined for the server name. Usually, when you need to have a sockets
connection
you will define an alias name so that you have an entry in the sqlhosts
file for both the socket and the shared memory names.
NOTE: Should you find out that you have to keep the sockets connection,
you may
want to add a b=8192 after the value in the last column of the
/$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts
file , so the socket connections are now sending in blocks of 8K
instead of the default of 2k.
Hi,
We are currently using on-line v7.13UC1 on IBM SP server.
The performance we are getting is very poor. I have noticed that our
Informix server is defined with the 'onsoctcp' in sqlhosts file. Shouldn't
this be 'onipcshm'?
The onconfig file also contains the following line:
NETTYPE soctcp,1,8,CPU #override sqlhosts nettyep parameters
Is this correct?
Can anyone please help/explain the difference between onsoctcp and onipcshm
and the
performance implications of both parameters.
Thank you very much.
